“I spotted those candy slices while searching the internet for gumballs in bulk.  I just fell in love with the idea of using them on a cake.   They come in several of colors/flavors, but I ordered the lemon first and had been waiting for a chance to use them.  Well, I was given the dreaded “make whatever you want” instructions for an engagement party cake for my cousin and his bride-to-be.  I was told their colors are pink and clover green and that was a head-scratcher, but then it hit me: “ooooh wait, I’m ordering the watermelon slices!”  I got to use the lemon ones soon afterwards as well on a cake for my son’s girlfriend.”

Gradually add flour to butter mixture.  Beat at low speed just until blended after each addition, stopping to scrape bowl as needed.  Stir in almond and vanilla extracts.  Pour one-third of batter into prepared pan.  Dollop 8 rounded teaspoonfuls strawberry glaze over batter, and swirl with wooden skewer.  Repeat procedure once, and top with remaining third of batter.
